Colgate’s Champions for Kids {Bright Smiles, Bright Futures}

It is important to my husband and I that we as a family are constantly apart of things bigger than ourselves. We recognize how easy it is to ‘serve’ ourselves again and again, neglecting to look around and see how we can instead be serving others. By no means have we become ‘experts’ at living selflessly, but we continue to strive to be more and more like Christ in this area of our lives.

As my husband and I have both spent time living overseas in third world countries, we both recognize how much we have to be grateful for. For this reason, I am excited to be participating in the Champions For Kids #Colgate4Kids Simple Service Project.

The week before spring break, my husband and oldest son had an opportunity to help work with an organization helping people in Galveston, TX. Galveston Urban Ministries (G.U.M.) has the goal of empowering the poor and marginalized in the Galveston community through community development and support services.

G.U.M. has different ways that they reach out to the community, job readiness, social services, youth programs, and children’s programs. My husband really connected with the ministry and with their heart for serving people. So it was naturally a good fit to help them out with Colgate’s “Bright Smiles, Bright Futures” Champions for Kids Campaign.

We purchased Colgate toothbrushes and toothpaste at our local Wal-Mart, then brought it home to package up and send to   Galveston Urban Ministries, who are excited to give these great Easter packs to the children in their after-school program.

Our boys then created small Easter packs that included a Colgate toothbrush, toothpaste, and an Easter egg with a treat inside. They were excited to help in such a small way and wanted to go take it to the children as soon as they finished. Unfortunately, that wasn’t an option, so we packaged the Easter packs and sent them to Galveston Urban Ministries.

If you and your family are looking for an opportunity to give back this Spring, I encourage you to head to Wal-Mart and take advantage of Colgate’s great sale on their toothbrushes and toothpaste! Then, donate them to a great cause in your area, if your heart also connects to what the workers at Galveston Urban Ministries are doing, we would love for our Easter packs to be accompanied by hundreds more!
