God’s Promises for Boys could not have arrived at a better time in our home! Big Brother is beginning to experience little (and something BIG) doses of frustration with his beloved little two year old brother. Their personalities play a huge role in his frustration as Big Brother wants everything done his way and his Little Brother can be quite destructive in his play at times (are you beginning to see where the problem lies?). My husband and I are learning as well how to handle their little (let’s call them) ‘episodes of drama’.
Well, the day we received the books, Big Brother asked to read out of it for his bedtime story. The first little promise that we opened up to was this:
“Did that boy in your class tattle on you?
Did your sister crash your go-cart?
Don’t yell; don’t pout; don’t go around mad;
Ask God to put peace in heart.”
Do not be angry with each other, but forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, then forgive them. Forgive each other because the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13
A gentle answer will calm a person’s heart. But an unkind answer will cause more anger. Proverbs 15:1
We have continued to read this book together for a week or so now and Big Brother has begun sharing with me a feeling or a situation he encounters during his day and we look to see what God’s promise to him for that situation or feeling tells him. As a parent, I love that this book is teaching him to think and ask what God tells him to remember and do in a situation. What a great habit to begin instilling in our young children now!
