King’s Hawaiian Rolls- Copycat Recipe

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Arby’s. All opinions are 100% mine.

Only two weeks until we head to Hawaii for vacation! We are all getting excited and can’t wait to spend time at the beach! Our boys are asking questions everyday about ‘Ha-wadi’ and what they will do there. We’ve been looking at a map, talking about things Hawaii is known for, and of course sharing some favorite ‘Hawaiian inspired foods with our boys to get them excited about our upcoming vacation!

This week I surprised my husband and our boys by making my husband’s favorite rolls- King’s Hawaiian Rolls! I slightly adapted my recipe from here, and we enjoyed these AMAZINGLY sweet, delicious rolls for breakfast and for dinner as sandwich buns! I loved that this recipe’s sweetness came from it’s pineapple juice and were topped with a second sweet brush of pineapple juice!

So whether you are headed to Hawaii this Summer or creating your own Hawaiian paradise at home, these sweet rolls are a delicious recipe that will send everyone to the kitchen to find out what’s creating that sweet aroma in your ktichen!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 oz. unsalted butter
  • 1-1/2 cups pineapple juice
  • 1 T sugar
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 cups flour, plus more for kneading by hand
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions:

1. Combine water, pineapple juice, butter, and 1T sugar to melting. Pour yeast over the liquid and allow to sit and bubble without stiring for about 5 mintues.

2. Next, using the paddle beater of your stand mixer, beat the eggs, and 3/4 cup of sugar. Add in the pineapple juice mixture, ginger, and vanilla. Pour into separate bowl; set aside.
3. Sift 3 cups of flour and salt into your stant mixer bowl, using your paddle beater slowly add the egg mixture into the flour. Mix well; continue adding the remaining 3 cups of flour and mix. As the dough thickens, switch to your dough hook attachment for your stand mixer.
4. Beat dough on low for about 10 minutes, scape the sides as necessary. Dough will be soft and sticky.
5. Spray a mixing bowl with a non-stick cooking spray and transfer dough into bowl. Cover and place dough into a warm place to rise, for about 1.5 hours; dough size should double!
6. Remove dough from bowl and place onto a lightly floured mat. Knead in 1/2 cup flour, turning and kneading dough about 20-25 times. Shape into 2 oz. rolls or place dough in greased and floured loaf or cake pans.
7. Cover with a light towel and let rise in a warm place for one hour.
8. Mix 1 egg with 1 T milk and 1 T pineapple juice; brush egg mixture on top of rolls. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes, or until tops are light brown. Remove from pans and let cool completely on wire rack.
Makes approximately 30 rolls; perfect for rolls or sandwich buns!
They were fantastic with Homemade Strawberry Vanilla Bean Freezer Jam for breakfast!

Served hot, and made fresh to order, there are TWO new KING’S HAWAIIAN sandwiches to choose from:

- Arby’s KING’S HAWAIIAN Roast Beef sandwich comes with an extra helping of freshly sliced roast beef, piled high on a soft and slightly sweet KING’S HAWAIIAN bun

- Arby’s KING’S HAWAIIAN Roast Beef & Swiss sandwich has the same extra helping of roast beef and KING’S HAWAIIAN bun, topped with Swiss cheese, crunchy pickles and creamy Dijon spread

My husband and I recently stopped by Arby’s to try the NEW KING’S HAWAIIAN Roast Beef & Swiss Sandwich on the way home one evening. The sandwich was delcious, as the sweet Hawaiian Bread added that extra soft, sweet flavor to Arby’s roast beef. Our boys hwo had already had dinner, couldn’t get enough of my sandwich! They kept asking for just ‘one more bite’ and soon my sandwich disappeared before I even realized what had happened. I guess we will be headed back to Arby’s again soon!

Be sure to stop by Arby’s soon to try one of their 2 new KING’S HAWAIIAN sandwiches!

  1. So ironic…I was just at Arby’s this morning and noticed this item on the menu board. (We actually live about 40 minutes away from our nearest Arby’s.) What a great prize though! I’m pinning your recipe on my “Bread Board”!
