One Wintry Night A snowy night, a warm cabin, and a boy who hears the Christmas story told for the first time—beginning with Creation and ending with the Resurrection
A classic Christmas picture book, One Wintry Night tells the story of a mountain boy who is injured in a snowstorm and seeks refuge in a cabin. While he waits out the storm, the woman who lives there tells him the Christmas story. In a magnificent blend of a contemporary setting with the history of God’s redeeming love, Ruth Graham created a wonderful and unique version of the Christmas story. Breathtakingly illustrated by renowned artist Richard Jesse Watson, One Wintry Night is the perfect gift for the young and the young-at-heart that will fascinate both those who have heard the Bible story many times and those who know only a few details.
One Wintry Night has been a very special book in our home this Christmas season! My husband and I have been reading this beautiful story with our oldest son (age 3.5) before bed. The story is segmented into short chapters and we typically read 1-2 chapters each night.
Although Big Brother was a little young to fully understand every aspect of this book, I would say One Wintry Night has played a special role in continuing to soften his heart for the Lord. Each night’s reading ended with questions about the Bible stories shared. Ruth Bell Graham weaves multiple commonly read Bible stories into this book all centered around the message of hearing God’s voice and being obedient to what God asks of us. This was a message that Big Brother understood at 3 years old and was constantly puzzled by why certain characters in the Bible didn’t obey God. This allowed for many great conversations about why obedience is so important and how there are consequences both good and bad for our obedience to God’s direction for us.
Since reading this book, Big Brother will randomly refer to it while riding in the car, playing at home, and even explained parts of the story to his Aunt recently! This has been a book that God has brought into our home for a reason… I truly believe it was a gift to our son through which God continues to draw him to Himself. Thank you Ruth Bell Graham and Thomas Nelson publishers for allowing God to use you to bring such a beautiful book into our home!
This Christmas season, I would love nothing more than to give this book to all of my friends and family with hopes and prayers that it might be a blessing to their home as well! Although I am unable to give everyone a copy, Thomas Nelson is partnering with Cheerios and Lattes to offer one family this beautiful book!
