Taco Soup

Taco Soup is an all-time favorite in our home! An easy recipe that is great for those cool days! Taco Soup has become one of those recipes friends and family ask for when they come and I occasionally get an email or text request for the recipe. Yes, it is THAT good! :) My husband is also insistent that the ONLY way to eat this soup is not with a spoon, but with Frito Scoops. Our boys also prefer to eat it this way as well. So next time you come for a visit, know that when Taco Soup is served there is rarely a spoon on the table!

  • 1lb Ground Beef or Turkey
  • 1 can Kidney Beans
  • 1 can Pinto Beans
  • 1 can Corn
  • 2 cans Stewed Tomatoes ((Blended; if preferred) )
  • 1 can Green Chilis ((small can for mild) )
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning
  • 1 packet Ranch Dressing Mix
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Frito Scoop Chips

1. First, brown the meat in olive oil on the stove.

2. Combine all ingredients (except for cheese and chips) in the crock pot and cook on low for 4-6 hours.

3. Serve in bowls with shredded cheese and Frito chips.

  1. Looks easy and yummy! :)

  2. This is one of our faves!! I always make it on Tuesdays because I have to do a crock pot dinner. Liam woke up yesterday asking if it was Taco Soup Tuesday. :)

I’ve been trying to master a good choc. chip cookie recipe over the years, so I’d like to give yours a try. I’ll let you know of my results…..and your boys are getting oh so big!

  5. This look so yummy! Cannot wait to try it!

  6. Mmmm, this sounds good. They make that here in Honduras all the time in restaurants. But this looks like it would be better. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Yum! I bet my kids would love it.

I make taco soup but use stewed chicken, and black beans. The rest of the ingredients are the same. Very good and freezes great. I usually make a huge pot and freeze in quart freezer bags for later. Serve with tortilla chips, grated cheese and sour cream. YUMMY

  9. McKenzie,

I have a Taco Soup recipe, but it makes a much larger amount of soup. I live alone and I am so happy to get a recipe that suits my needs better. Thank you. I am a follower of Jesus also. HE is so good.

  10. I have been asked to make taco soup for a couple of years now and just couldn’t find recipe I liked, till now that is. Thanking you in advance of making this.
I also have looking for the recipe for Jalapeño Cheese soup to no avail.I had it in Ellensburg, WA at a place called The Church. ( Was an old church) I’ve been experimenting for years and may be close. Any ideas?

I’m so glad i found this . A lady from church made this for my family after i had my youngest they all loved it but couldnt find a recipe i have tryed to make it before just by remembering what was in it . how many people does this sever want to make this tonight

  16. We make this all the time too and love it. I am making it tomorrow to be exact. 😉 The only difference we have is that we use the Rotel tomatoes (already have the chiles in them) and we don’t add the ranch pack. And congrats again on your little one. We find out on Thursday if we have 3 little boys or 2 boys and a little lady.

  17. We love this soup too. Matter of fact I was making it tomorrow. 😉 We follow the same basic recipe but we use Rotel tomatoes (they already have the chilies) and leave out the ranch packet. Congrats again on your little one. We find out on Thursday if we will have three little guys or 2 boys and a little lady.

  18. Jim Hammond says:

This should be a delicious soup, and if you double the recipe you can place it in meal size freezer containers (Without the Corn Chips and Cheese) and pull it out for a quick delicious meal during the week.

  19. Granny Jean says:

I make a similar taco soup. Only difference is I use 2 cans of hominy instead of corn, and use 2 cans of ranch beans instead of kidney and pinto. Even if you are not a fan of hominy you will love it in this recipe. Add all the liquid from the cans in the soup. Oh yeah, I also add a can of Rotel along with the diced tomatoes. Of course if you have small children you might want to delete the Rotel.

  20. Delicious soup-we have it at least twice a month. Very quick to make also. I usually use a can of mild or hot Rotel tomatoes in place of the second can of stewed tomatoes and green chilis-cuts out a step. I also sometimes add a beef bouillon cube for extra flavor. Mmmm mmmm good!!
